This is a nice daytrip out from New Orleans to the end of the Mississippi river, with virtually no highway/motorway use.
The road gets progressively more scenic as you leave the city, going through a lot of rural / swampland and bayou landscape.
Once you get to the end (past Port Sulphur) it gets even more scenic with some really interesting points where the road is really close to the water.
Nice food stop at LA 23 BBQ, either on your way out or back depending on your timing (it is only 30 mins out from the city).
